Steroids with athletes and how it affects their performance
Steroids are artificial sources of testosterone, the male sex hormone that is responsible for regulation of weight gain, strength, stamina, alertness, endurance, and sexual drive. Testosterone is produced naturally by the body, and injection or administration of steroids to the body increases the effects of this hormone. Studies conducted in the early 1920s have shown some incredible results of this hormone, and in reality endows the user an almost unprecedented, superhuman abilities especially strength and endurance.
Thus, steroids have become a piece of controversy among sports organization evaluating the fair play among participants. In any major tournaments, special teams of doctors conduct thorough physical and biochemical checks on steroids with athletes to detect presence of enhancement drugs that officials believe, would present an unfair advantage over others. It is this particular raucous milieu that the public has been informed about the longstanding controversial use of steroids.
Professional sports, like the Major League of United States of America, and amateur sports tournament, such as the Olympics, are no less than rigid in setting up policy combating the use of steroids with athletes. In the thick of things, we heard of dramatic, almost always emotionally-charged, pictures of athletes humiliated and stripped of honor and medals.
But what is the real score? Do steroids with athletes necessarily make our sportsmen unbelievably strong and invincible? It is important to remember that these athletes would never be good at anything without intense training under professional coaches. If an experiment on effects of steroids would be conducted on ordinary people and athletes, the latter receiving training and the former receiving none, who would we expect to do well on the field? All things being equal, focus, training, willpower, and constant practice still count more than mere use of drugs.
In conclusion, it leaves us to thinking that steroids are used as a means, not the end, towards better performance and world-breaking abilities among athletes. Well this might be quite unacceptable to the public which has long been victimized by media’s anecdotal, white-and-black, treatment of the issue but the truth is, steroids enjoy usage among professional athletes.
