When it comes to hardgainer bodybuilding, it is important to understand that in order to finally becoming one of the “head-turners” at the gym, you first must know exactly why you’re a hardgainer. That means finding out why your genetics isn’t helping you to gain weight because the simple fact is that your body won’t react to your training and nutrition the same way “others” do.
Now, my guess is that you’ve probably already been working pretty hard in the gym, trying to find the one training system that would finally work for you, haven’t you? You have probably also found out that even if you eat 12 times a day your metabolism burns off all those extra calories and you do not gain much weight. And let’s not even get started on how much money you waste every month on miracle supplements that never work…
So it looks like the “traditional” hardgainer training – lift heavy & eat a lot – doesn’t really work and the reason for that is very simple. Hardgainer genetics is different and understanding that is the key to overcoming all the challenges every skinny guy has to face!
Now we are going to have a look at one of the biggest hardgainer bodybuilding challenges – fast metabolism.
“Metabolism” is a very complex element of your body’s ability to support a healthy weight. And while some people struggle with losing weight because they have slow metabolism, your hardgainer body is exactly the opposite. You have a fast metabolism, which in more scientific terminology means that the ectomorph body type has to deal with an “Overactive Sympathetic Nervous System”. I know, it may sound a bit complicated so let me break it down for you:
Your body’s sympathetic nervous system consists of three sets of glands:
– Adrenals
– Thyroid
– Pituitary glands
Each of these glands are accelerators of your metabolism because they convert “potential energy” in the body into “outward energy”. In other words, they increase the number of calories you naturally burn off during the course of the day. So the more active these glands are, the more calories you expend in the way of “outward energy”.
Now, let’s discuss two simple ways you can trick your fast metabolism to minimize its negative effects:
#1: Change Your Eating Habits!
You need to start eating every 2-3 hours, or approx. 6 times per day, in order to provide your body with a steady supply of nutrients from which to grow from. If you let yourself go 4 hours or more without eating then you are putting your body into a catabolic state and burning up precious muscle tissue. Don’t let that happen!
Now, I know it might be a bit new concept for some people… Eating that often sounds like you will become a skinny fat guy… Well, don’t worry, you won’t! I am not saying you have to stuff yourself like a pig. Eat smaller portions and eat healthy! Remember, the most important thing is not to let your body into a catabolic state, which simply means you should eat before you are actually hungry…
#2: Train In The Evening!
Why to train in the evening? The answer is simple: Because if you trained in the morning time you would only supercharge your already fast metabolism and actually burn off more calories!
If you are working out in the evening time, you avoid the hightened metabolism throughout the day. Training about 1-2 hours before going to bed will give you the chance to stay in really opportune anabolic zone because the highest spike of growth hormone happens when you are sleeping. Plus, you get a spike of growth hormone when you work-out and using this double dose of growth hormone will definitely help you gain lean muscle!
